On  the shore of Kaunas man-made Lagoon the ensemble of Pažaislis Church and Monastery established  in 17th century. It is one of the finest masterpieces of mature Baroque architecture in North-Eastern Europe. At that time in a remote forest. The 17th  Chancellor of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Kristupas Žygimantas Pacas built it for the Camaldolese monks. The ensemble, designed by Italian architect Giovanni Batista Fredianio, decorated with moldings by Lombardy sculptors and frescoes by Florentine painter Michael Archangel Palonis, has survived in an ensemble of about 140 different sizes. The uniqueness of the ensemble is determined by a unique architectural solution. For the first time in Europe, a concave plane of the church facade, a rather rare hexagonal plan, an axially symmetrical composition of the whole monastery were used. Pažaislis became famous not only for the devout life of the Camaldolese or the artistic buildings of the monastery. The pilgrims gathered to the indulgent crowds by the Blessed Virgin, who was especially gracious and donated to the hermits of the founder on July 2 each year an image of Mary, popularly known as the “Mother of God of the Camaldolese.” We will see all this and more when visiting there.

The castle, which arose at the confluence of the Nemunas and Neris rivers, was one of the most important castles in the territory of Lithuania, and a settlement was built around this castle, which grew into the present city. It was rebuilt several times, the castle lost its significance in 1408, when Kaunas was granted the rights of Magdeburg, and the whole life of the city moved to the then Market (Town Hall) Square.

Its 53 m high tower is the tallest in the Old Town.

We will see Perkūnas house – it is one of the most impressive Gothic style residential houses in Lithuania with an original facade, which uses as many as 20 bricks of different profiles. It is believed that the house was built in the 15th century.
